Peter Nicolai Arbo

Peter Nicolai Arbo (1831-1892) from Drammen was an eminent history painter and central within national romantic art. With dynamic compositions and dramatic depictions of humans and animals linked to Norse mythology, legends, and historical events, he has fascinated audiences for generations. Specialized in history painting - a genre that combines storytelling, symbolism, and major human conflicts - his works can provide insight to how history, myths, and art have shaped, and continue to shape, our understanding of the past.
