Lars-Andreas Tovey Kristiansen (35) has recently been appointed to the post of Executive Director at Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium (VKL). ‘I am relishing the prospect of leading one of the most important centres for contemporary art in Norway’, says Kristiansen. He replaces Morten Viskum, who takes up the post of Artistic Director.

Kristiansen was already working at Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium when it was formally established in 2003 and is intimately familiar with the workings of the institution. ‘Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium is uniquely positioned to present a wide spectrum of exciting contemporary art, and has garnered considerable international recognition for its work. I look forward greatly to further developing this reputation and exploring new ways in which our exhibitions can be produced and the artworks mediated to the public’, he points out.

Lars-Andreas Tovey Kristiansen (b. 1983) has his art education from Konsthögskolan in Malmö and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig, Germany. In addition, he has studied Arts Management at the OsloMet metropolitan university. Kristiansen is an active artist with a string of solo and group shows behind him, both at home and abroad, and has received several commissions for art in public spaces. He was also involved in setting up and leading ‘Landings’, the project space at Vestfossen, which started in 2008.

Promote VKL’s position as a Norwegian centre for contemporary art

With Kristiansen as Executive Director and Morten Viskum as Artistic Director, Vestfossen Kunstlaboratoriet has been strengthened on both the administrative and artistic side. ‘This is a solution with which the board of VKL is delighted’, says Board Chairman Preben Holter Ellingsen. ‘In Lars-Andreas we have an Executive Director who knows the institution intimately and who can work towards realizing our goal of holding Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium open all the year round, both as a gallery and as a professional art centre. Together with Morten Viskum, who not only established VKL but is also a leading figure on the country’s contemporary art scene, the board is convinced that the institution has a management pairing who can secure and further promote the position of both Vestfossen and Kunstlaboratoriet as a Norwegian and international centre for contemporary art‘, Ellingsen concludes.
