Excerpt from the catalog text of Morten E. Petteresen, Chairman of the Board at Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium:

“The title of the exhibition, “Every Body Counts”, hihlights two important themes: The human body in art, and the question of who art is for. The human body has been one of the important and radical themes of art. It exposes that which is taboo, undermines our pride and uncovers abuse of power and exploitation. (…) The other theme of this years exhibition is the question of who art speaks to.

 

At Vestfossen we believe that everyone is capable of appreciating and of being touched by art, and that there is no reason for art to be the exclusive realm of artists and art experts. We will only succeed in bringing contemporary art to the people (and of bringing the people to contemporary art) if we project the right image on ourselves and put on the right exhibitions. At Vestfossen we try to come across as open and informal, whilst presenting a wide range of artistic styles. We hope that everyone will be able to find something to inspire, surprise and perhaps even provoke him or her. At Vestfossen all reactions and all visitors are equally valued.”
